SHEEPSKINS

EXPORT TO AMERICA. IMMENSE INCREASE FROM AUSTRALIA. FEDERAL INQUIRY DEMANDED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, July 10. A comparative table of the export of sheepskins shows an extraordinary increase since the war. Last August 2600 sheepskins with the wool -were exported to America, rising in October to 157,902. In the same months of the previous year there was no export at all, only 350 skins going to America in the whole six months July-December. The total exports for the year were 389,649 skins, valued at £78,433, as compared with 87,533 skins, valued at £17,517, in the previous year. The exports of skins without wool were equally startling, amounting in the six months July-December to 163,092, as against nothing in the same period of the previous year.

It is suggested that Germany is behind the business, and a Federal inquiry into the destination of the skins is being demanded. i
