THE RECRUITING.
A reference was made by the Minister of Defence at the recruiting meeting at Port Chalmers on Monday night to the numerical strength of the reinforcements now in training at tho Trenthain encampment. Unfortunately, by an inadvertent error in our report of Mr Allen's speech, the exact figure was seriously understated. Mr Allen was reported to have said that there was now over 1000 men at Trentham. What he said was that there are now over 4000 men there.
Mr W. H. Hawkins, of Tataraimaka, who contested the Stratford scat at the late general elections, has (says the Post) volunteered for active service with the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces at tho front. Mr Hawkins was formerly an officer in the Volunteer Force.
