AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. The. "Mysterious Hugard," with his sensational shooting and sleight-of-hand tricks, appeared at Hid Majesty's Theatre again last night, supported by an excellent company. The wonder-working Ching Sung Loo, with his band of assistants, pleased the audience throughout the whole of his performance, and tho other members of tbo company were all well received. These entertainers will appear again this evening. FULLERS' PICTURES. "The Battle Before Antwerp" forms a most interesting contribution to tho current week's series of pictures at the King's Theatre, and succeeded in capturing uie keenest interest last evening. '"The Treasure Ship" (drama), "Life's Lottery" (drama), and a Keystone comedy entitled "The Great Too Mystery" complete an excellent series, that will be on view this afternoon and evening. HAYWARD'S PICTURES. A good selection of moving pictures is at present being screened at "The Octagon." The leading dramatic number is a presentation of one of Mr W. W. Jacobs's stories, "Beauty and the Barge." It is nicely acted, and the Eetting ie good. The war pictures are also good and form one of the attractions. The same programme will be shown to-day. The usual matinee will be given this afternoon. The Davis Cup. On Monday tho management will screen a splendid film of tho famous world's tennis championships, which were played at New York in August. The picture shows Australasia (represented by Wilding and Brookes) v. America (represented by M'Loughlin and Williams), in which Australasia wrested the cup from America. The photography is said to be perfect, and the picture is very interesting. Other pictured of interest will include "The Inspector's Story." PRINCESS THEATRE Miss Carrie Moore appeared again at the Princess Theatre last night and met with well-merited approval. The other artists who appeared were also cordially received, and the programme as a whole was completely successful. The same artists will appear at tho matinee thia afternoon and ttus evening. QUEEN'S THEATRE. Visitors to the Queen's Theatre cannot fail to be impressed by the picture showing tho artillery battlo before Antwerp and scenes in the city during tho time of the &iege. An amusing comedy "When tho Men Left Town" is included in the current programme, whilo other good dramas and comedies, and tho lastest Australian Gazette, are also shown. The same pictures will be screened to-day. PLAZA PICTURES. An attractive series of pictures allied to the additional interest of a beauty competition nightly succeeds in drawing crowded audiences to the Plaza Theatre. " The Undertow" and "A Wife for a Wager" supply the dramatic element, and there is a judicious selection of popular subjects. The same series will be shown finally t • m afternoon and evening. "THE MESSIAH." Judging from recent rehearsals, the public may look for a satisfying rendering of "The Messiah" by the Church Choirs' Union in the Garrison Hall on Wednesday. The conductor (Mr W. R. Don) has drawn together a strong body of capable singers, and the chorus work gives promise of character tnd finish. The solo parts are in the hands 01 local artists who never fail to please, ahd who, by intelligent 6tudy, have qualified for the distinction of taking leads in oratorio. With Mr J. A. Wallace as leader, the orchestra should give a good account of itself. DUNEDIN PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY. The above society's final concert this year will be held in the Garrison Hall on Friday evening. An excellent programme has been arranged for this occasion. By special request the " Military Caprice," composed by •Signer Squarise, descriptive of the great European war at present raging in Europe •will be rendered. This work was most enthusiastically receiveo at the previous concert, and is sure to be appreciated again. The programme includes: March, " Japanese " (Mokoko); grand overture to Rosimi'a "Stabat Mater" (Squarise); overturn, "Triomphaie" (Sibelius); prologue in heaven to the opera " Mephistopl»le<" (Boito). As usual, two pieces will be bet aside for tho string section as follow:— Historiette, "Lise et Lucas" (Mouton), valse intermezzo, " Premiere Etoile " /Mou ton). Miss Mabel Esquilant is the 'aciy vocalist, and her numbers will be " Seftlj Awakens My Heart" ("Samson and Delilah "; Saint-Saens) and "Life's Gift*" (Clutsam). To enable the public to heap the fine march composed by Signor Squarise, the committee has decided to sell a limited number of 2s tickets, which can be obtained at the doors or from members of the society.
