THE WEATHER

Wintry conditions, with heavy showere of sleet, rain, and hail and snow were experienced in Dunedin on Friday night, and all day ,on Saturday. The sleet and snow was particularly heavy at about 10 p.m., and a strong southerly wind prevailed. Snow fell on the neighbouring hills and inland. Yesterday broke clear and fine, and the snow-covered hills bounding the city looked pretty under the rays of the sun. The rain amd snow will do a great deal of good to the country. Hie sky was overcast at a late hour. (Pee United Press Association.) lIMARU, September 27. The weather is oold and stormy, but very little rain has fallen yet. North-west showers fell at n;ght, alter a strong nor'wester all day. Ih© barometer is down to 28.93deg, after having been very high for a week. Tho country is very dry. ALEXANDRA, September 26. The weather is oold and blusterly, with occasional sleety showers. There was a heavy coating of snow on the mountains last nigiht. RANFURLY, September 26. Thirty-six points of rain fell on Thursday, and 30 pomts on Fnday. At time of writing a heavy N.W. wind is blowing, and it is very oold. OTURJiHUA, September 26. The rainfall registered for the -.48 hours ending 9 a.m. to-day, was 140 points. GALLOWAY, September 26. The rainfall registered for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on Saturday was 7 points. The rain was accompanied by cold winds, and by snow on the ranges. WOODLANDS, September 26. The rainfall registered this morning foe the 24 hours was 36 points, and 39 points were recorded for the day before. After a spell of fine spring weather tho conditions now are wintry.
