FIRES.
(Pn United Paras Association.) INVERCARGILL, July 7. The Baptist Church, a wooden buildhrg at North Invercangill, was destroyed by fire at 2 o'clock this morning. It was ineured for £300.
The total insurances, on Mr Donnelly'shouse, Otatara, total £8000 In the Commereial Union office. The loss ie considerably above that eum says the Wellington *>oet. Mr Donnelly paid £6000 for the property, and spent £1000 on improvements. Some very valuable paintings and Maori carvings 'of historical interest were destroyed. The total loss over and above tho insurance ie estimated at £20,000. The Dunedin police received word yesterday that a bakehouse and shed, the .property of Mr John Lefeyre, of. Hampd'an, and occupied by Wilson and Co., storekeepers, was burnt down at 9.30 p.m. on Monday- The buildings were insured ii Me State Fire office for £50: The firm!e effects -were uninsured, and their loss is ertimated at about £60. The fire is attributed to a defective furnace and chimney. .
