(Received May 10, at 5.5 p.m.) A3 earthquake has severely damaged Acireale and neighbouring villages. , Doctors, nurses, and tents have been sent to succour the homeless. Thirty dead bodies and 120 badly injured persona have been extricated from the debris. Many small villages were stricken during the night, and it is expected that the casualties will b& doubled. Santa Latarina, with a population of 2183, has been destroyed, and hundreds of houses and churches have collapsed elsewhere. Mount Etna is increasingly active.
