CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.
The following are the chief clauses of the various committee reports for submission to the meeting of the City Council on Wednesday evening The Public Works Committee recommends that tho offer of Messrs Chas. T. Wilson. W. 11. Buckland, and N. and E. S. \Paterson, to give to the council without «)St''sufficient portions of their properties fronting Buodeugh street, Valley Ward, so ad to permit of the said street being widened to' 33 feet, the council to pay tho cost of adjusting titles, and form tji'e road to its full width, bo accepted. A reserve of two feet wide, which lay between the land to bo given and the existing roadway has been • purchased for £20, of whioli sum Messrs N. and E. S. Paterson 'will contribute half. , The General Committee recommends that the application by Mr H. Mandeno, on behalf of the office-bearers of the King -Street Congregational Church, for permission to remove the wooden church building towards the rear of the present section in King street, in order to provide space for the erction of a proposed new church building, be granted. Tho Tramways Committee reports having granted the Tramways Social Club the free uso of the St. Glair pavilion on September 5 for the purposo i of holding the club's annual basket social. Two cars will also 'bo provided for the use of the men, the four men required to man samo being arranged for by the club's executive. Authority lias been granted to install in one of the cars, during the pleasure of the council, one of tho Munden and Muir Electrical Announcer Company's (Ltd.) machines, which is to bo supplied by the company. The Gns Committee reports that tho carbonization returns for the gasworks for the month of July. 1913. as compared wit.h tho corresponding period for last year (given in lmrontheses), are ns follow:—Coal gas made, 19,247,300 cubic feet (19.615,898 cubic feet): water gas made, .303,500 cubic feet (323.500 cubic foot); —total gas made, 19,550,800 cubic feet (19.839.398 cubic foot); coal eurbonizejl, 1512 tons lOcwt (1572 tons 15owt); make per ton, 12,664 cubic feet (12,407 cubic foot); <»as sent, out, 19,611,300 cubic feet (20.017.898 cubic feet);. coke sold, 586 tons/lcwt (654 tons 3owt); tar sold, 8334gnl (7065ga1), Number of services connected during month, 23; number of inetors connected during month, 141: number of meters returned during month, 119. Fortv-fonr new street lamps wero erected during the month.
