OAMARU MARKETS.

(Fhom Oue Own Co-respondent.) OAMARU, July 26. A little more business has been passing in wheat during tho week, though individual sales have boon on a modest scale. For a choice line of 300 sacks of velvet 4s net was given at a country station with short railage, and the same terms obtained in respect to a smaller parcel. Other sales of velvet have been .made at country stations at 3s lid and 3s lljd net and 4s, less commission. A nice line of red chaff- wa3 secured at, 3s 7J<l net at a country station, and another parcel changed hands at a jd less money. A small line of red Tuscan was obtained at a country station at 3s sjd net, and solid straw Tuscan lias been sold at 3s 5d and 3s.ssd net at country stations, the sales at the lower figure including a line of 500 sacks. A line of 500 sacks of Marshall's white was taken at 3s bid, less commission, at a country station. Oats are rather quiet, and tho prices given during the week show a drop of about a half-penny, as compared with those of the previous week. Some . small lines of A Grade Gartons have sold at 2s 2d net, but other sales were mado at 2s lid and 2s Id net, and 2s less commission. B Grade Gartons have been sold at 2s and Is net at country stations, according to railage distance A small line of Algerians found a buyer at 2s net, and 200 sacks of Duns were taken at Is lljd net, both at country stations.

A demand is being experienced for ryegrass, cocksfoot, and clover seod for spring sowing, but farmers have pretty well dis-' posed of their lots. The position in relation to potatoes grows more unsatisfactory as tho season advances, and the future presents no hopeful sign. For a tip-top sample of Up-to-dates £3 net on. trucks, sacks in, was given, and a lice of Gamekeepers realised the same price, which was also conceded for Up-to-dates in new bags, but ?ales generally have been mado at £2 15s, and today the market is weak. At that figure seed which are vary plentiful, are unsaleable. There is a demand for choice seed, Gamekeepers for northern shipment, and these are worth from £3 15s to £4 net on trucks, but medium quality arc unsaleable.

There is not much to report in regard to the stock market. There is a good demand for owes and hoggets, but the possibilities of business ai'e greatly nullified by the paucity of sheep generally offering for sale. As ito values, that may bo eeen in the fact that a line of four, six, and oight-tooth ewes found a'buyer at 26s 6d. A small lot of failing mouthed sold at 13s 6d. One line of 500 small hoggets, mixed sexes, brought 15s, and hill wethor hoggets have been sold at 13s. For 270 fat wethers the priec obtained was 22s 6d per head. There has been practically nothing doing in cattie, there being almost none for sale. Boef, is scarce, and at this week's sale up to £12 was paid for fat bullocks, fat heifers and cows briuging relatively good prices. There is a consistent, deicaml for well-grown bullocks in forward condition, and these are worth from £7 to £8. dairy cows coming to profit continue, to sell 'readily at about £4 .for good young' animals, while well-bred young cows fetch from £10 to £12.
