PRLVATE MEMBERS' DAY. (From Our Own- Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, July 23. Tending the introduction of tho financial Statement Parliament remains somewhat lifeless. To-dav signs were shown of a little hotter spirit among the members, and the elfccis of vaccination seemed to be slowly disappearing. But still there was nothing to provide much oxcitomcnt. Ihe introduction of the Workers' Compensation Bill by the Prime Minister gave an opportunity for an interesting little debate upon.tho subject of the proper provisions for compensating workmen for injuries sustained. This Bill has not been circulated yet, but tho Prime Minister stated that he would be glad to consider the suggestions made when the Bill was in committee. After questions and answers had been discussed consideration of private members' Bills was entered upon. Tho first was the Saturday Half-holiday for Shoos Bill by the Hon. D. Buddo. This,was discussed from 7.30 to 10.30, when tho motion for the second reading was defeated by 46 to. 14. Thereafter tho Commercial Trusts Prevention Bill (Mr Payne) was entered upon and discussed for upwards of an hour and a-quar-ter, when the l'rimn Minister said ho found the explanation of so much talk in a Bill further down on the Order Paper. He had no objection to Mr Payne's Bill, and if it went through ho would move (lie adjournment, Upon this the first mild stonewall of the session (aimed at Mr Hunter's Racing Amendment Bill) ended, anil Mr Payne's Bill was unanimously put through jts second reading stage. The House rose at 11.43, the latest night so far.
