"Clambers's Journal" for March contains a readable article on "Stafford House and its Memories," tho great mansion which recently became tho property of Sir William Lover. Sir William, as is well-known, offered the house to tho nation, but as it was suggested that his offer was made with mercenary motives, it was promptly withdrawn. This article gives a capital- idea of tho magnificence of tho place and of tlie courtly scenes of splendour it has witnessed. It is estimated that its first noble owners spent at least a quarter of a million ,on its decoration. _ " Chambers's '• always' contains a capital 60rinl, and the current chapters of John Fosters "The Ship of Shadows,"' carries ono on further in a most interesting plot. There aro also somo excellent short stories, and " Tho Law and the Gambler" is an articlo that, in view of our earning laws, is of special interest hore.
