-■"■: CHRISTCHURCH, ■ April 11. r 'The conference of delegates of unions affiliated to the New Zealand Federation of. Drivers was resumed to-day. ..: Remit No. 6 of the Auckland Union was agreed to as follows:—" That steps .be taken to prohibit the employment cf youths upon all carting contracts under the Government."
*ißemit N0..9 from the same union was aJsp agreed _ to—""That steps be 'taken to prohibit drivers from entering into contracts on the share system unless working under a partnership agreement and having capital at stake in the business, such partnership agreement to be invalid.un-less-registered.'' ■The fallowing resolution was agreed,to for place- of Remit No. 8, Auckland Pinion:—" That the Drivers' Unions throughout New Zealand be urged, to cooperate with the labour representation Committees where 6uch exist 'in securing the : 'direot representation of workers on alj. local bodies, and to nominate candithose bodies with a view to figuring direct representation of drivers;, and where there is no labour body already )is"'existence for this purpose', that the dti'vens' 'union in that particular district fifle the initiative in forming a representation of workers' ■• committee." , mJt was decided—" That action be taken to-.- have the Old-age Pension's Act amended.so. that a person of the full age shall receive the pension as -goon as his income falls below the minimum and not,' as-at present, be compelled to starve for a y?ar before becoming eligible for the pension." --Mr W. E. Woodham,- secretary of the Canterbury Trades and Labour 'Council, ■waited'on the conference and urged ' its members t<> make representations to the Pume Minister regarding, the alleged illtreatment of boys on til's Amoknra. -It Was decided to forward the following telegram to the Prime Minister :—" The New Zealand. Federation of Drivers' Conference has. heard with surprise of the alleged ill-treatment of boys on board the A'mokura, and believes that the charges made can be substantiated, and ssks that K'full' anf!. public inquiry be held immeft'A'tely into the allegations. 1 *''Renut No. 3, Canterbury, was agreed to ■f?-' That the Government be urged to take in!-hand all the transport work required hv- the general community;"
