OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND.' ' A DRAWN GAME. (Feou Ode Owx Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, March 6. The match Otago v. Southland was continued to-day in tho presence oi aiwut 200 6pccta,tors. The weather was again favourable, but oppressively hot in the afternoon. Heavy rain fell during tho early morning, but as the wicket was protected very little harm was done. The l wicket was tfiueh tho same as the one tho previous day—slow and easy in the lirst stages, but subsequently playing faster and encouraging tho ball to rise. Play was resumed at 11 a.m., Condliffo ■joining Huntly at tho wickets in continuation of Otago's first innings. In Doig's second over a chance of running Condliffn out, and a tip up to Irwin behind tho 6tumps by Huntly wero missed. Tho fifth ball of Doig's third over clean bowled Huntly. 67 —B—9.8—9. • Reid joined Condliffe, tho latter scoring his first run off Herbert's bowling. Reid got on to one from Herbert, and D. Hamilton missed a fairly easy catch. Reid scored a 2 by a. good hit to leg, but tlio next ball from Doig h» put up in tho slips arid A. Hamilton took a good catch. 71—9—3. M'Laughlan, the last man, opened with: a single off Doig. Ai this stage the Southland skipper effected a change in the bowling, Poole replacing Herbert. Condliffe put two out to coverpointy scoring a 2 and a single. M'Laughlan paced two off tho same bowler to leg in succession, but tho next ho lifted towards the boundary, where Herbert made a good try at a hard catch. Condliffo placed a pretty ono off Doig through tho slips. The last ball of the over clean bowled M'Laughlan. The partnerdiip lasted 30 minutes, ,and yielded 46 runs. 117—10—26. The innings had lasted two hours and 30 minutes.

Irwin and Kavanagh opened the local team's second innings to the bowling of Huntly and Siedeberg, and ' runs came slowly. Eventually. Huntly ricked hifl thigh, and retired tor a time, M'Laughlan taking up liia duties. Two straight drives by Cojidliffc and an uppish one by Tuckwell brought 40 up in 30 minutes. After getting Herbert nicely to the on boundary, Condliflc hit one from the same bowler to the Southland skipper at mid-on. 47—2—13. Brydon began with a. big hook for 2, and raised 50 in 35 minutes. Tuckwell had now played himself in, and Herbert wassuffering in consequence. A lofty sixer to leg by Bryden was the next feature of note. Tuckwell drove Doig for a brace, and raised the total to 60. At 68 Poole replaoed Herbert, whoso one wicket had cost 46 runs, When the score was 72 Irwin missed Bryden at tho wicket 6 off Doig, and Tuckwell also gave a chance of being caught from a drive off Poole. Tuckwell brought 80 up agter 68 Poole. Tuckwell vrought 80 up after 68 a pull to the on boundary. Jrwin then missed a ohance of stumping him off Do : g, but the bowler got his revenge by clean bowling the batsman in the same over.; 94—3—32. Kenny filled the gap, and played out the over. Kavanagh relieved Poolo at' 94, and 6ent down a maiden, which brought ■the game to a conclusion. Tuckwell, who had been in 76 minutes, carried his bat for 30 after a really masterly exhibition.
