DISASTROUS FIRES
DRAPERY PREMISES DESTROYED.
SEVERAL GIRLS PERISH. EIGHT' STILL MISSING. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, November 3. Barker's drapery establishment, in South Kensington, was destroyed by fire early this morning. Tho lives of 30 girls were imperilled, and there were many thrilling escapes, Then; were heart-Tending scones when the heat became so intense that further rescues were impossible. Some of the girls leapt to the pavement, and were seriously injured. Ono rescued girl saw four of her companions perish. There are eight girls still missing, and their fate is regarded as hopeless. Four others succumbed in the hospital. The building was gutted.
NEW YORK HOTEL DESTROYED. NEW YORK, November 3. Fire destroyed tho Berlin Hotel at St. Louis. One man was killed and several other guests were injured, three having fractured skulls. The inmate 3in a panic fled in their night clothes.
