A Press Association message states tliat Mi- John Fisucr (Utautau) was yesterday appointed chairman of the South Canterbury Education Board for tho ensuing year. A Piess Association message from Christchurch advises thai Airs M'Arloy, the wifo of Mr W. M'Arley, General Secretary of the New Zealand Railway Locomotivo Engine Drivers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association, died yesterday. Owing to the unsatisfactory condition of his health Mr A. Slingor, engineer to the Dunedin Drainago Board, has been granted two months' leave of absence, and will leave for a trip to tho other side on Tuesday. Mr Pliilip Newbury, the tenor singer, does not intend to be idle during liis stay ill Dunedin. To-morrow morning ho will appear at St. Martin's Church, North-Kast \ alley, and in the evening ho will bo present at St. Paul's Cathedral, where ho will render " And they all persecuted Paul" and " Be thou faithful unto death," from Mendclt'sohn's "St. Paul."

Robinson won a gentleman's hat trimming competition.
