" ti i LONDON, September 5. Mr Tillctt's resolution proposing an inquiry into tho Government's powers and prospective action in connection with compulsory arbitration was rejected. Opponents feared that tho adoption of tho resolution might be interpreted as an acceptance of the principle of compulsion. September 6. (Received Sept. 6, at 11.25 p.m.) Mr Ramsay Macdonald pleaded for moro generous treatment for the party by labour critics, Ho said'the party's path was difficult, as they had to tread between a Liberal morass on tho one hand and a wild beast on tho other.
