ORGAN RECITAL.

Tho organ recital given by Mr E. Hoywoor?, organist and choirmaster of SH. Paul's Cathedral, last evening was very largely attended, Si Pauls being com]>letcly filled by tho audionco. Mr I Ivy wood opened with ii sonata in K Hat minor (No. 6). by Rhoinbcrger, tho four mbvomonls of which were admirably rendered. Mr John Leech boim; unable to sing, " Lend me vow aid," liis plaeo was taken by Mr J. A Uaggitt, who sang, "' Tims saith the liord." Mr Hcywood's second organ solo was nn exceedingly pretty composition by Wolstenholmo, "L'antilono in A Hat," ■which was most effectively treated, mid constituted one of the most acceptable items on the programme. It was followed by " Troiddans," from the Peer Gynt suite (Grcig), and Uie familiar intermezzo fitini Masoagni's "Cnvallcria Rusticnna." Tlic peculiar music of the former received ample justice at tho hands of tho organist, while the latter was played in finished style. An adagio (for bassoon and piano), computed by l<ouis Spohr, and arranged for the organ, was skilfully interpreted by Mr Hoywood, wlk> had by this timo proved to those who lpd not previously heard; him pl.iy. that ho iuul a complete mastery over tin- instTument, and was a. musician of a iiigh order. The only march on the programme (.Jubilant March in l), by William Foulkos) formed tho next solo, durins the playing of which a collection wjs nindo in aid of tho choir fund. The march was played with spirit and' groat brilliance, and its rendering showed that Mr 1 lev wood was quite capable of (riving eminently satisfactory expositions of music of widely different character. A vocal dtat by Miss Vida Waters and Mr Leech liad to bo omitted in the absence of Mr Ixvch, but Miss Waters fulfilled her engagement to sing " With vortJiirc clad." the high pas sages of which taxed hor somowhat. The solo was nevertheless by no means indifferently rendered Tho recital concluded with a "Dramatic Fantasia," by Neukomin, in tbc playing of which Mr llcywood demonstrated his ability Ic interpret descriptive rmisio. It is tho intention of Mr Hey-wood to give another recital shortly.
