HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD REPORTS.

The following are tho chief clauses of the various reports to bo submitted at tonight's meeting of the board: — The Hospital Committee reports that leave of absence lias been granted as follows:—Miss Dick, clerk at Dunedin Hospital, from 11th to 27th February inclusive, and the secretary has.been authorised to arrange for a substitute to take her place; Dr Bathgate for a fortnight's leave of absence as from the Bth inst. The following changes, in staff have been approved:— Appointment of A. F. Clarkson as temporary porter at Dunedin Hospital, salary at the rate of £60 per annum, in place of A. Roxburgh (resigned): appointment tf Sister Margaret Nixon as sister-in-chargo of the incurablo ward at the Benevolent Institution; Sister Valentine as sister-in-eharge of the Fever Hospital; Sister Scott as sistor-in-chargo of tho Maternity Hospital for a period of six months each, salary to bo tho same as that which they are receiving at present in Dunedin Hospital; S. Carmichael to the position of day sister, salary to commence at the rate of £60 per annum, rising to £70; A, Buckley to tho position of day sister, salary to commence at the rate of £60 per annum, rising to £70; M. Parlane to the position of night sister, salary at the rate of £75 per annum. The Waitaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has been advised of tho terms on which patients requiring X-rny treatment from tho Oamaru Hospital would be treated at Dunedin Hospital as recommended by the medical superintendent. Accounts amounting to £480 175.1 d on the general account, and £2 17s Id- on the laboratory account have been passed for payment. The Benevolent Committee reports having dealt with 41 cases for relief at a weekly cost of £13 18s. Causual cases for relief'amounting to £13 16s 5d have been approved. During .the past fortnight 13 peoplo have been admitted to i the institution, two discharged, and two inmates have died. Letters of thanks have been sent to the following for their donations to the Otago Benevolent Institution:—Seaeliff Mental Hosiital, two cases of fish; Mrs Horeus, High street, North-East Valley, a parcel of olothing; Volunteer camp, Tahuna Park, 20 loaves of bread. Accounts amounting to £415 lis 8d have been passed for payment. The Finance Committee recommends that the salarv or Miss Dick, clerk at Dunedin Hcepital.'be increased from £78 to £90 per annum. Maternity Hospital: For two months ending 31st January, 1911, _31 patients have been admitted to the institution. 31 confinements have taken place, 33 persons have been discharged, and 31 babies have been born, making a total of 469 to date since the hospital was opened. During the year ended 30th September, 1910, 158 confinements took place in the hospital, and 19 persons were attended in their homes. Nurse Burnett has boon appointed probationer at Port. Chalmers Cottage Hospital for a period of six wcqks as from the 26th January. Tho request of the acting matron of the Port Chalmers institution for the services of a washerwoman once a fortnight has been declined. Requisitions for a suit of overalls and spirit stove for the inspector of infectious diseases has been granted. Accounts have been passed for payment amounting to £1753 16s 2d. The balances of the various accounts of tho board on the 7th February, 1911, were as follow:—General account (debit), £1094 2s Id; building and extension (credit), £1034 Is 3d; Campbell interest (credit), £208 3s 2d; laboratory account (credit), £336 18s- 8d; Hospital Saturday account (credit), £292 5s 3d. Tho Sanatorium Committee reports Ihat the recommendations of the collector in regard to payments for maintenance of patients hi Pleasant Valley Sanatorium have lxicn approved. The architects have been authorised to act in regard to damago to windows at the sanatorium caused by wind, and also to prevent a recurrence. Tho sketch submitted by Messrs Mason and Wales for the proposed tablet at tho sanatorium has been approved, cost £5 ss. Letters of thanks have been sent to tho following for their donations to the sanatorium:—Mr Lefevre, pears; Mrs Page, flowers Accounts amounting to £106 17s 5d have been passed for payment.
