RAM AND EWE FAIR.

REDUCED ENTRIES. The Otago Agricultural and' Pastoral Society held its second annual ram and ewe fair at Burnside yesterday. The entries forward were, not so numerous as they wore last year, the numbers respectively being 864- animals as against 1257. This decrease is attributable, to the fact that this year there is an improved demand for good sheep, particularly Romneys, and- as. a consequence many private sales have taken place, with the resultant decrease in numbers offered publicly by breeders. The sheep are offered under regulations formulated by the society providing that only animals registered in the New Zealand Flock Books and catalogued by the society may be sent forward; that the upset on starting prices shall be (a) rams, twoshear and over, ljgs; (b) all other rams, 2gs; (c) ewes, lg; and that only one minute and a-half shall be allowed for each lot. The sale started at 11 a.m., and was concluded at a little after 2 p.m. The great majority submitted were cleared, and of those passed in most were afterwards privately sold. Border Leicesters and Romney Marsh sheep .predominated in the catalogue,
