The" first'.part; of'this monthly meeting, held'yest'ciday at' the Y.W.C.A. Rooms, Moray place, vas devoted to Scripture reading and prajer. Greetings wore received from Mrs Davis, ex-president, now in Vancouver. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs Henderson, .New Zealand superintendent of Maori missions, in the sudden blow that she has oustaincd through die loss oi her husband. Mexlames Blair, Pearson, and Gain were elected representatives of the union at the United Temperance Reform Council. Mrs Don referred to the recent election of Charitable Aid and Hospital Boards, and to the favourable opinions of all elected as to tho advisability of womeiracting-as a Co-operative Committee. After some arguments it was decided to recommond Mrs Hislop and Mrs W.' IJ. Don as candidates for the position. A lengthy discussion tlien took place, on the Nelson system of Bible reading in 'schools, resulting in all present agreeing to sign a petition praving that Bible-reading be reestablished in State schools. The president .(Mrs Blair), reminded those ■present that women can vote as householders, and urged all to attend the elections in their districts on April 24, and vote for the candidates who are in favour of Bible-reading in Slate schools. The Social Committee intimated that magazines and periodicals would be greatcfully received at tho Sailors' Rest for the use of seamen on land and at sea. Some of the members present took collecting cards for the Maori mission. It was stated that large sums could easily bo raised if members and sympathisers would give Is each. Mts Kirkland was to have given an address on Mrs Cole's annual address, but, owing to the prolonged meeting, decided to postpone it for a future ,'occasion.
