SUPREME COURT SITTING.
(Pia United Press Association.) NELSON, December 8. Tin Supreme Court session opened, today. Mr Justice D-enniston said that the calendar was' fairly heavy for Nelson. There were four charges against four persons, anl ihvee persons had been committed for sentenco. Annie Thompson, aged 66, came up for sentence for perjury with regard to t-ho birth of a child. She was convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. The judge said the sentence was of this nature because the prisoner was elderly and had borne a good character. Nevertheless, perjury was a serious offence, where the punishment as a, rule should be a deterrent. Isabella Dixon, daughter of the previous prisoner, also came up for sentence 'jii charges of making a false declaration before the Registrar of Births and of per jury in a maintenance case against her husband. She was similarly dealt with on tlie ground of lier previous good character.
