FIRST COUNCIL MEETING.

„,. . WELLINGTON, December 7. Ihe first meeting of the newly-alected Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountant* formed under the act of 1908, wm held at Wellington to-day. SaiKlfmann. Mr W. Green (i)unedin) forwarded an apology. Ho was the only absentee.

The election of officers resulted as under • President, Mr P. Bare (Dunedin); vice' president, Mr H. C. Tewsley (Wrlliii". ton); treasurer, Mr J. S. Barton (Wellington) ; secretary, Mr E. W. Hunt (Wellington).

The Registration Board formally handed over the affairs of the society to the council.

Wellington was decided upon as tho place for the society's registered offices. Messrs Young and Tripo (Wellington) were appointed legal advisers to tho society.

Ihe question of drafting resolutions for submission to the general meetin" was left in tho hands of the president and the Wellington members of the council. It was arranged that copies should be forwarded to all members prior to the, general meeting, which will be held early iu (he new year.

The president and the Wellington members of the council were appointed Executive, Finance, and Legislative Committees. The design of the society's coat-of-arms and seal was left in their hands.

It was decided that the syllabus for the 1910 examinations should be arran«ed on the same lines as that held by the two existing societies in 1909, but that the new society should have control. It was resolved that persons who had passed the examinations of either or the existing bodies prior to 1909, and who submitted evidence to that effect, also evidence as to good character, should be admitted to membership on application. It wa.« decided to call a general meeting of members for the purpose of passing a single regulation providing that proxies ho permitted at all general meetings of the society until the new regulations are finally adopted. A general discussion took place on the proposed regulations, but the meeting adjourned before finality was reached. Tho matter will be fully dealt with to-morrow, the council meeting again at 10.30.
