HASTY LEGISLATION.
PROTEST BY EMPLOYERS. (Per United Pbess Association.) WELLIX GTON,. December 6.
The Parliamentary Committee of the New Zealand Employers' Federation has written to the Prime Minister conveying an objection to the manner in which legislation affecting' employers' interests is being put through Parliament this session. Complaint'is specially made regarding the Shipping and Seamen, Shops and Oltices, Factories, Coal Mines, and Mining Amendment Bills. The committee urges that the complicated' and effects of the Shipping Bill warrant, the suggestion that it should have been circulated during one session and considered the following, session. Several clauses, says the committee, were passed in committeo the full import of which was not realised by members owing to insufficient time for consideration. After referring U> what has been dono concerning the other measures named, the committee says: " This matter is of such serious importance that employers consider that 110 desire to curtail the session to certain limits should be allowed to prevent ample time being provided whereby those immediately affected and members .of Parliament may give full consideration to tlio proposed legislation." The committee requests that further reason for complaint
will be obviated by the Government deciding that sooner than allow legislation to be rushed through in the manner complained of it will postpone it for consideration till next session. ANOTHER PROTEST. (Pee CTxiteu Pkess Association.) PALMERSTON N.. December 6. At a meeting of the Manawatu Employers' Association this afternoon the following motion, was carried unanimously : —" That this association strongly protes'ts against the action of the Government in at any time overriding the decisions of the Arbitration Court, and considers that such interference is boutxl eventually to nullify the work of the Arbitration Court, and is against the interests of both employers and employees. This association also strongly protests against the proposed amendments to the Shops and l Offices Act as a direct- nullification of existing awards." A well-attended meeting of employers in the evening passed a similar resolution.
