THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.
RUMOURS OF RETIREMENT. (Faoy Our Own Cop.hesm.s'dext.) WELLINGTON,. December 6. It is understood here that the. High Commissioner (the Hon. Mr Hall-Jones) will probably resign hie office and return to New Zealand in the course of a few months. It is suggested that lie will then probably be appointed to the Legislative Council. Mr Hall-Jones's health has not been good in London, and it is probable that, the New Zealand climate would ag'reo with him better. It is suggested that the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie should receive the position owing to the special study he has made of commercial matters and the placing of our produce 011 the London market.
