ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the council of the Acclimatisation Boeiety was held yesterday afternoon. The memliers present were—Messrs It. Chisholm (president, in the chair), T. Brown, A. M'Carthy. R. Rutherford, It. Brinslev, C. P. M Butterworth, 0 M. Marshall. P. Aitken, J. Edgar, A. E. Farquhar, 0. W. S. Chamberlain, and A. E. Jenkins, hei'idbts. Mr F. Dcans's report, for November wa» as follows:--" The distribution of young fish is being pushed on as rapidly as pos" sible, this being a record season. Mr Hteven has a heavy contract on hand in liberating his lot. To date some 260,000 have lieen turned out from the Opoho halciicry. The streams appear to be all well stocked with small lisli. The Lee Stream, which I believe is seldom visited ■by Dimedin anglers, is now in tine fishing condition, and well stocked. Mr M'Coi"nochic having reported that his pond requires restocking. I would recommend that, ho get. some. Lake Blagdon trout, for il. It has not yet, been decided where these fish are to be pill. It would be advisable to have this decided, so that ihcy may lie. liberated as soon as possible. A pair of golden pheasants has been disposed of, and about the middle of October a coclc pheusanl, was sent to Mr Telford, Otananioino, but I have never heard whether it arrived or not. There being no '"ainbow yearlings, Mr Heid, Khlerslie, has decided to wait a season."—Approved. Mr A. Steven, from the hatcheries, Clinton, reported that, the principal work of the past month has been in the distribution of fry and yearling fish in the various streams throughout the soeiei.v's district. Although 600.000 to 700,000 fry and 5000 yearlings have been liberated up to December 1, a large number still remain to tie distributed. The report also referred to delay in forwarding funds for payment of aecoiints.--The report was received, and a. sub-committee set up to go into tho matter of accounts. COIiHESPONDFATE. The Secretary of the Waikouaiti Anglers' Society wrote thanking the society for the services of th? ranger, and,suggesting that as the holidays were approaching, and there was danger of fish being illegally taken, the ranger should remain in the district for the present.—Referred to the executive. WEKPV DKKIt. Attention was called to the necessity for dealing with weedy deer in the Hawea district, and the executive was empowered to draw up conditions and arrange for extermination of weedy deer in every portion of tho Huwea district. The executive was further requested to submit to next meeting of the council a scheme for allocating blocks to deer-stalkers for tho next season. FINANCIAL. Accounts amounting to £144 6s 2d were passed for payment
