CONCERT IN THE BURNS HALL. Anything where children are concerned .it 01153 enlists the sympathy of ladies, and this w «>mita for tho fact that the large audience t.mt assembled in Burns Hall last OVCMn<r. when a concert arranged by the Young Women's Bible Classes of Duncdin ami suimiU was (rivon in aid of tho Presbyterian Onildion's Homo and 0.-phanagc oxtfwion, was for the nio3t part composed of ladit«.

The Rev. Mr Axelscn said that three vcors ago. when Sunday School work, parlictilarly lor destitute.children, was started, it was never anticipated that it would grow to such dimensions as it had. As it was, they were refusing children, majiy of whom they might accept if they, h«4

accommodation. . There was.a feeling that something more must bo done, fm a gont'loman having donated a section oUand, it. was resolved to start a. building fund. The voung women connected with tho Biblo classes had already raised £600, and the idea was to increase'it to £1000, and towards this end ths- concert had bean arranged by the young womeni who had also provided the white dresses worn by tba children for the occasion. . tl The kiiiderspiel "Soot and the Fames was then performed by the children, and was exceedingly well dono. There wore choruses ami solos, and in every instance tho little ones taking part acquitted themselves most creditably. The second part of the programme was opened with the duet, "The moon has raised her lamp." from " Tho Lily of Rillarooy," tho singers being Messrs G. Gun- and C. Gray. Mrs Powh' sang twice, and on each -occasion the audience recognised that it was listening to a vocalist of very considerable ability. Mrs Blanche Levi, Mr Jos. Coombs, and Mr T. Parker rendered a trio by Mendelssohn for piano, violin, and 'cello most commendably, but seeing that it is somewhat heavy, and took about half an hour to perform, it can scarcely ba regarded as a happy selection for such a concert, A scene, from " Tho Tempest" was capitally given bv Miss G. H. Gord'ner and Mr T. Bnckcll, and a sketch by Mr Percy James camo in for special /ecognit'.on. Mr K. T. Lawn sang Schubort's " Wanderer" fairly successlully, and tha recitation, "Tho Gift of tho Hells," by Miss F. J. Boss, completed the entertainment.

■KAIKOBAI FOOTBALL CLUB'S CONCERT. There was an excallant attendance last evening in the Wakari Hall at tile Kaikorai football Club'e concert. The concert was arranged in aid of the funds for tho testimonial to Mr Alex.- M'Doneld the ".All Black" Yepresentative footbalkr, and the fund should bervifit to a considerable extent by the amount raised last evening, while" the attendance w« »!>•■<> indicative of the esteem in which Mr M'Dbriald is held. An excellent piogrammo had been arranged, tho promoters mwing bs«n fortunate in securing t;he ctfrrices of several well-known performers. Early in the ovening tho Chairman ajxdogised for the absence of the Mayor and said that as an important event was about to take place in the life of Mr M'Donald, the Kaikorai Football Club felt it was only fair that «. concert should be tendered him. Tho- Chairman also stated that owing to the length of tho prograirimo no encores could bo allowed, but on two or three occasions tho rule had to ba broken. Thcsa who contributed to the excellent programme wore ■ Miss Violet Fraser, Messrs A. Harrison, and W. H. Mncaenzie (songs), Mr Harry Jones (comio songs), dusts by- Messrt H. W. Armitage ami Jos, Patorson, and Messrs Wyllie and Sutherland, recitations by Miss Ivah Cran and Mr J. H, Brennan; violin eolo, Mr G, Beat.ii; cornet solo, Mr E. Kerr. Tho Kaikorai Band, under Conductor Laidhvw, played two selections, and the Roslyn Methodist choir .rendered two choruses. Dho accompanist was Miss A. Dawecn. L.A.8., A.T.C.L, ORPANHB' CLUB. A very fair audience greeted the Orphans' Club at the St. Kilda Town Hall last evening. A splendid programme was presented, which was greatly appreciated by the audience, which considered it to be one of tho best ever given in the borough.
