THE ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION
THE LATEST PLANS,
(Fnoit Our Own CcitKEsroxDEKT.) WELLINGTON, November 16. Advices received by the mail which arrived from London to-day state that Captain Scott hopes to leave England by August and to be at the base of operations in December 1910. Spofia' attention is to be devoted to the further, scientific exploration of the Ross Sea area. Captain Seott purposes establishing two bass, one in M'Murdo Sound and one in King Edward VII Land, if an accessible spot can be found. At the latter base tho major force, with provisions and equipment for the Polar journey, will bo established. It will be remembered that it was also the idea of Lieutenant Shackleton to land there, but the altered configuration of the coast prevented this. It is anticipated that a large quantity of provisions can be carried to the foot of the great glacier, and if So a port-ion of such, together with the extra ponies available, may be nted by a small party for further exploration of the mountainous land in the south-east-. If this can be arranged, the chances arc that this party will be able to determine whether this . region is connected with King Edward VII Land, or whether it continues in the direction of Graham Land. There is evidently much important geographical - and other work to be done from a station on King Edward VII Land. -
