LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION.
THE QUESTION OF SEPARATION.
(Peb United P«ess Association.) CHRISTCHUIiCiI, November 16.
The council of the Xew Zealand Lawn Tennis Association met to-niyht. Programmes were approved of tournaments to be held at Mai ton (January 21 and 22), Pahiatua (January 1 and ~3), Ashburlou (December 25, 27, and 28), and New Plymouth (January 1 and 3). The Taranaki Association nominated Miss Powdrell to play for New Zealand against New South Wales at Auckland at tne end of the vcar.
A lengthy communication was considered from the Australasian Association objecting to the New Zealand Association's request- that a special council be set up to rule the Davis Cup matches. This was the outcome of the New Zealand decision to become a "separate nation," so far as tennis was concerned, instead of being grouped with Australia. While desiring that New Zealand and Australia should play in combination for purposes of the Davis Cup and other international matches, the Australasian Association considets such a body as suggested could r.ot be considered by other nations as a recognised lawn tennis association or corresponding organisation. It urges the New Zealand Association lo reconsider its
" iegret-table decision." The association to-night considered tho matter in committee, when some idea of the position the association desires him to take up was given to Professor T. A. Hunter, who lias teen appointed delegate to represent New Zealand at a conference to be held in Svdnev.
