THE AGE LIMIT.

Government messengers to RE RETIRED. (inou Ol'ft Q 1/x C'OHitKSI'OXDKNT.) , . W Ki.i,INGTON, February 2. e "°st states tliat the messengers in the Ciovernineiit service are concerned as to whether the enforcement of the a«e limit regulation wilt apply to tllOHl,■ Tile official view is that it will apply to all those messengers who have joined the superiinnuulion liind. Before the fund was instituted, it is pointed out, there was 11 sentimental objection to retiring messengers who had passed the age limit, but with the advent of the fund that objection is removed. All had the chance of joining, and it is considered that if any did not join it is their own fault. All who did join will get a pension, however small, and the smaller it is the more likely it is to be supplemented by the old-age pension. The unfortunate' part oi the affair is that some men joined the staff at such an age that their pension at tbe age of 65 is so small as to-be almost useless. However, it appears that the regulation is to be enforced, and that messengers over 65 must go. The inference is considered to be that with the. departure of the older men will be instituted a system of taking on younger men. The enforcement of the regulation will affect some 10 or 11 men at the Government Huildings in Wellington.
