PHYSICAL CULTURE.
ANNUAL. COMPETITIONS, The second annual competition for suureihacy of physical development among the pupils of" the Otago School of Physical Culture Svas held last evening in the rooms, Sussex Hall. There was' a very good attendance of competitors, and the indication of interest by 'the. attendance of friends and those interested was corresponding 'ratio. A point of improvement .'distinctly shown was the increase 1 of knowledge indicated by the general ■ bearing, of ■ UicY men, this being attributable to (lie maintenance of the interest generated by last year's inception of the contest, . •' , ' The judging -was in the capable hands ol Dili Watt, O'Neill, and Mr Briclgimui. Dr Hunt«r, who officiated as one of iJie trio last year, was unable to be' present. The results are:— Under 21 (gold medal).—L. Steven 1, R. Kerr 2. This was a very close competition, the. winner securing his position '■ by a narrow margin. Over 10 stone (gold medal).—J. H. Murdoch 1, K. Kirkham and S. Wateon (equal) 2. Another close decision was recorded hero. It' was found impossible to separate Kirkham and Watson. Under 10 stone (goldmedal).-H. M'Corkmdalo 1, K. P. JJoughton 2, Houghton was not in the atinb fettle as he was last year, otherwise, said the judges, the result might have been different. Championship (gold inedal).-L: H. Myers 1, K. Johnston 2. This was a splendid exhibition, the major portion of the men being in line fcitlo. Tim judges, however, decided on points for the men as shown. After the judges' decisions were announced the . instructor of the school (Mr J. P. Northey) thanked these gentlemen for their attendance arid services. The medals won will be awarded at a concert to be held on Thursday evening in the hall.
