James Macarthur was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment for : embezzling £185 from the New Plymouth Sash and Door Company,"* '■'.■ WELLINGTON, November 23. . To-day Mr Justice Cooper sentenced a named Ronald Jones, on two charges of breaking 'and entering, to 12 ■ months' imprisonment, to be kept separate from the other prisoners. A sentence of seven years was imposed on Tobias Miller for having attempted .to murder Ernest Hight. by. shootiiiß him, with a revolver. John Wilson, alias 'KielyJ was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for bigamy. He admitted that He had been previously convicted 1 of bigamy. ■At the Suprome Court to-day James Reid. was found guilty pf stealing various' articles,, including a watch and chain. Sentence ■ was 1 .deferred'. Maurice Daniel Paulmeir, charged with . indecently assaulting a girl/ was .found not.guilty. John Butler was charged with assaulting Anton Larsen. The jury disagreed/ and Butler is to be tried again. 'CHRISTCHURCH, November 23. The hearing; of the charge against William Thomas Gibson, accused of having had unlawful intercourse with his wife's cousin, a. girl under 16 years of age, at' Waihi last May, was continued to-day. Accused, in the box denied absolutely that he had 'in any way whatever tampered with the girl. The jury retired at 1.30, ; and at 7 o'clock to-night the foreman announced that they had been unable to agree.' A new trial was ordered to take place next week. CHRISTCHURCH, November 24.
