ST. KILDA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The usual meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor. (Mr W, T. M'Farlane) .presided, and there were present Crs bcanlan, Burk, J. D. Cameron, Robertson, Taylor, D. C. Cameron, Gore, and Ashton. An apologj for absence was received from Cr Hodges. CORRESPONDENCE. The Dunedin Drainage Board notified the council that the engineer had been authorised to carry out branch sewer and reticulation work up to and including Queen's drive.—Received, the Mayor and inspector to interview the ongineer on eevernl minor matters in connection with the scheme. The Bank of New Zealand wrote, re the Eroposed purchaso of sections 15 and 16, look XXII, Musselburgh, by tho council, asking—if the council was still anxious to acquire the property-for an olfer more commensurate with tho value than that previously offered—Received. To be infronted that the council could not increase its offer. RETORTS. The Finance, Gcnoral, and Reserves Committee's leport recommended that accounts amounting to £16613s 7d bo passed for payment. With reference to the St. Kilda Tennis Club's complaint re danger from cricket balls from tho cricket club's pitch, the committee reported that tho cricket club had consented to remove its pitch to the other end of the park. Tho committee had referred the matter of the proposed five plugs in East avenue to tho inspector and captain of the Fire Brigade, with power to act. The financial statement showed the district fund. account to have a debit of £1505 14s lOd, while the special loan account was in credit £2722. 9s lOd, and the drainage and sowerago account war in credit £200 6s 10d.— Adoptod, The Inspector (Mr J. B. Dick) reported upon tho work of the daymen during the past fortnight. The Drainage Board had started the formation of sewers in Ferguson street, bu,t was carting the surplus spoil to its sections in Royal crescent, Ho recommended that the Drainage Board bo requested to leave the roads in the same condition as it found them.—Adopted. Cr Robertson moved—" That the councillors for each ward lay a report upon the table at next meeting of the council in regard to the efficient lighting of each ward in the borough.
