IMMIGRATION QUESTION.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) •WELLINGTON, July 31. There is a big outcry about the number of immigrants coming out to New Zealand, said Mr A. A. S. Danby, immigration officer, to a Post reporter this morning. " Peoplo think that all the third cJaea passengers are assisted passengers, a-nd they blame the Immigration Department for bringing people to compete in the labour market, but out of 223 passengers on the Rimutaka yesterday only 75 adults were assisted. So long as the immigrants pass the medical health tests there is nothing to prevent their coming when they are able to pay their fare. Many of theni work thoir passages out. When a passenger is nominated in tho colony the nominator must be responsible for the nominee, and must guarantee that there is work suitablo for him to ooine to.
