A MARKED DECREASE.

AUCKLAND, July 31. The monlh which eainc to a close to-day has boon a quiet- one in tho commercial world, if tiie export statistics are lo be taken as an indication of general activity'. In nearly every branch of industry the. exports from Auckland show a decrease as compared with last year. One of the biggest falls is in the amount of timber exported. During the mouth of July the timber exported from Auckland totalled lea-, than 2,000,000 ft, valued at £5900. Thin is less than half the value of the limber exported in July, 1907, the %ure for that monih being £13,226. The same, decrease in value applies to the wool exports. In July, 1907. there wore 170.8191b of wool exported, the value being £6842. Last month 160,1911b left Auckland, the value being £4191. Frozen beef exported in July, 1907. amounted' io £10,805. while last month the beef sent out was estimated at £715. o'ihsr ilccroases occurred in tiie exportation of lamb, £405, as against £1402 in 1907; kauri gum. £16,926, as against £63,429: liux. £4872. ~., against £21.049; hides. £552, as against £3879; skins. £1218, a* a;;ain-:i £1726: willow. £J?65, as innin-i £5920: and tow. £(,U, ;l .< ;v . lv i lul £5573.
