MAORIS AND CIVILISATION.

(Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 31. At the conclusion of Mr Ngata's address on ''Maoris and Civilisation" in Cantorbury Collego Hall last evening, Mr G. W, Russell (chairman of tho Board of Governors) raid that the board 1 was taking a very active interest at present in certain matters connected with the Native race, and he hoped to be able to make a definito announcement shortly regarding its operations. As tho audience know, lie was hoping to save some of the money at.present being expended on tho public library for tho -purpose of applying it for the benefit of the museum. In anticipation of this saving being effected, a considdrable amount was being expended in tho extension of the Maori exhibit in tho museum, ami he hoped to be in a position to make an interesting announcement shortly.
