DULLNESS OF TRADE.
PREPARING FOR HOLIDAYS. (Pbr United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 30. A gentleman who has just returned from a visit to the country districts states, that storekeepers are complaining of dullness of trade, which they ascribe to tho coming of the American fleet. They argue that tho settlers are saving up to oome to town during fleet week, and will at the same time make purchases of goods which otherwise would have been obtained in' their respective districts. The football matches are also blamed for causing less of time at some of the mills, as tho men absolutely refused to work because they were determined to go to town to sec'the game,
