LETTER TO THE EDITOR

"«»-—- ■. TJIE BARE MAJORITY! . !. Sir,—l. heartily congratulate the Revs.' James Clarke and P. B. Fraser on the clear' manner in which they have placed the question of bare majority as against the three-fifths majority before tho public. If true temperance is to advance, it will be because we have capable leaders like Messrs Fraser and Clarke to lead us. Let mo first state that I am not a. teetotaller,. and that up fo the present I have never voted for prohibition, but I have for reduction. 1 belong to that class who view; with disapprobation the open bar business, and Tam being educated. lam of the class 'of- which temperance workers require to get a hold of if they are to carry on. I even subscribe to their funds—and agcod many pounds, too, at different times —because their work makes for good, and I recognise it. All this may appear 6orne-, what rambling, but what I am now going to sav may be of value as representing what "many people may do at the next election. lam going to vote for prohibition at next election if the No-license party does not trv to ■ disturb tho three-fifths majority principle, and I know of hundreds of my friends who, though they never voted before for prohibition, are going to do the same, and we will be content to sec the open bar closed by a three-fifths majority. We will vote continuance if the No-license partv go for a bare majority. What always spoils the best chances of success for no-license is that some leaders are all for extremes, and will not take things gradually. If' is the storv over of the bov with.too big a handful of nuts not getting them out of' his pocket. I have simply no time for thf Rev Wm. Thomson.-I am, etc., One of the Many. '
