DUNEDIN CITY MISSION.
The monthly meeting of committee was attended by Messrs E. Aslin (acting chairiraii), George Rcid, P. L. Clark, S. C. 1 hillips, and D. Wright. Several apologies for absence were received.
Tho following donations, etc., were re-ported:-Anonymous, £50; CiL'y Merchant £3 3sj City Bam'eter, £1 Is; Albany fcivoct Service, 19s 6d; attendance cards, fl 2s; A Lady Sympathiser, £25; Good Samaritan Fund: Special case, £2 10s; a Lady Helper, 10s. The president was authorised to again aammiinicato with the various churches regarding annual collections. Tho usual accounts were passed for payment. In a lengthy and detailed memorandum, Mr Wright reported .in an interesting manner ae to the various familes and individuals visited in and around the city, and cxprosspd regret that ho could not give more time to this branch of needful work. To his own knowledge, and, through tho Society for tho Protection-of Women and Children, with which ho is connected, he could assert that, through lust and sin, tidings of cruelty and brutality chilled his blood and 6tirred his indignation. "Man's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn " is more than a poet's dream. To some extent he is thankful for tho Sunday evening service in Albany Street School, and hopes during the winter months that many adults from the neighbourhood will attend. The visits from Mr Stancs had done qood among the young people. Mr Wright co-operated with Mr Stanes in his special services in and around the city, and has also assisted in services at Russell Stieet Mission Hall, at St. Kilda Methodist Church, and at Cavcrsham Presbyterian Church. The classes for Biblereading in State Fchools are this year large and encouraging in every way, partly because of tho prosonco and co-operation of head masters, teachers, and a largo staff of monitors. Several limes lately the weekly attendances have been nearly 1000 boys and girls. The record numbers were at Arthur Street School, where on one day there were present 123 boys and 123 girls— 246; and on two eonseciitivo Wednesdays at Albany Street there wore present 216 young people. The mission is indebted to Mr Stnnes for visiting all its classes twice; his object lessons were much appreciated. In all about 1200 boys and girls havo b?cn enrolled, and still the number is increasing.
