( (Pee United Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, September 5. The Rev. H. A, Hawkins leaves tomorrow by the Southern Cross for Long Island on a- cruise, the purpose bein» to see whether the educated Maori is likely to prove successful in church mission work among certain archipela-gccsof the Western Pacific. The Melanesian. Society has within its sphero numerous islands peopled entirely by Polynesians, and it is recognised that the Maori is blood, kin to these people, and tha,t those young men who have been trained for evangelical work in the church colleges of New Zealand might find a wide scope for their energies among them, llr Hawkins will be accompanied l>y AYhiti Ti Paa, and expects to be away some months.
