THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT. ' A BRIGHT OUTLbOK. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. ADELAIDE, September 5. (Received Sept, 6, at 0.33 a.m.) The Budget was delivered to-night. The Treasurer . estimates to have a. credit balance of £48,423 on June 30 next. The estimated revomio for the financial yoiyr is £3,135,329, and the basis of calculation is a. nine-bushel harvest, as against 11 bushels harvested last year. The prospects for the ooming year are particußirly good. Tho cutting up of large estate for closer settlement has proved exceedingly profitable, The railway revenue lias increased by £225,000, as compared with the previous year, tho net income being equal to 5.15 per centum of the capital\cost,
The Treasurer stated that tho Government would reintroduce the progrresive land tax, and intended to spend £100,000 on works out of revenuo during the year ending Juno next. It was estimated that the Government would have paid in tho redemption of loans or in constructioh works out. of revenuo t.he sum of £970,000, exclusive of tho surplus which is expected at that date.
A prominent feature of the Budget was the establishment of a minimum wage of 7s per day for all niatiual labourer in the employ of the State. The Treasurer ' said he hoped that private firms would follow this example.
