CHARGE OF ASSAULT.
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 2. Edward M'Donald was charged at the Police' Court this mor.ning with, at the Travellers' Club on August 2W-, assaulting Thomas Rowo with a file. Rowc was a fellow-employee. .. Rowc, a. waiter, said that for some time there liad been, a little bad blood between them because of some dispute. Witness was'Standing-in a. passage when ho mot M'Donald, who made a remirk or two, which caused witness to strike hirn in the facc. M'Donald .pulled ai file out of his pocket, and ran at him. Witness put up his hand to save himself, and was caught. by the file on the wrist. When M'Donald rushed at him. ho cried, "You —, I'll murder you." Witness turned and fled upstairs, but Ihc other man overtook him, and stabbed him again on the left shoulder. In cross-examination witness deniod that ho was intoxicated or that ho had provoked tho accused. Tho accused, who reserved bis defence, was committed for trial, bail being allowed in the sum of £100.
