SUPPOSED DROWNING ACCIDENT.
(Pan United Press Association.) OAMARU, September 2. A farmer at Georgetown named. Jamee Fleming is supposed to havo been drowned in the Waitaki River about, midday. He started to ride acres to Redcliffc, on tho opposite bank, and later on liw horco returned riderless, with one stirrup gone. The river had been low for 6ome time, but the late rains have swollen it somewhat. Tho settlers were in the habit ,of crossing on horseback, and it is supposed that Fleming was washed off in tho river, 'which runs very swiftly! Ho was a son of the lato Mr Neil Fleming,.-a well-known auctioneer here some years ago. Search parties will go out in the morning. Thero is a faint hopo that ho may ht\vo readied ono o! the numerous islands in tho river.
