ROTORUA RAILWAY ACCIDENT
THE MAGISTERIAL INQUIRY.

AUCKLAND, September 2. Tho Ro'torua train accident inquiry was roaumed to-day. It was stated that an engine-driver named Donuolly could give important, evidence with rogard to passengcrer tampering with anglo cocks. M*' Kettle, S.M., said he was satisfied from the former ovidenoe that these cocks had been interfered with, and it was unnecessary to call further evidence on that point.
Further evidence 'was given by James Marchbanks, engineer in . cfiarge of tho Wellington-Manawatu Railway Company, and by Alfred L. Beattie, chief mechanical engineer of tho Railway' Department, in support of the efficiency of the -Westinghouse brake, it being' eomidcrcd that tho accident was the result of t : ho brake having been tampered with.
It is expected that the taking cf cvidenco will bo concluded to-morrow.
