SITUATION IN MOROCCO
FRENCH TROOPS SURPRISED,
MOORS LOSE HEAVILY,

MOROCCO, August 39.
Twelve hundred Moors surprised anil surrounded two companies of the French Foreign Legion with two field pieces at tho rear of Casablanca. The French were accompanied Spanish. , The Moore suffered heavily in successive desperate rushes made at close quarters, and eventually, after tho arrival of reinforcements, the French dispersed the Moors.

(Received Sept-. 1, at 4.40 p.m.) In the fight near Casablanca the French had three killed and nine wounded.
Many hundreds of Arabs joined those wild first- commenced the attack. Their mobility was such that the French seldom had a target- at which to fire. The French were altogether kept on the move for 24 hours.
The tribes, adopting new tactics, ■ abstained in most instances from charging in largo masses, and showed ■ a wide formation.
