A COWARDLY ASSAULT
YOUNG WOMAN MALTREATED.

MARTON. August 29. A young woman who lives at Marton, while returning from a visit to friends, was brutally assaulted near Kakariki Bridge yesterday afternoon, being knocked down and kicked about in a cold-lilcoded manner by a- man who Iβ believed to be n Native. She was rendered unconscious, and was afterwards found wandering about a paddock in a dosed condition. Her face was so much swollen that she was unable to see for some time.
