The Bank o[ England returns show tho stock of gold coin and bullion to be £34,552,000 j reserve, £24,959,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 50.60. The notes in circulation total £29,346,000; public deposits, £6,640,000; other deposit's, £42,617,000; Government securities, £14,574,000; and other Eecurities, £27,905,000.

Three months' bills are discounted at 4 11-16 per cent. Consols are quoted at £81 12s 6d.

The following 'are the quotations for colonial Government stocks, compared with those ruling a week previous: —

The wheat markets are lifeless, tlie weakness of the American markets counteracting a bullish feeling in Europe. This in duo to damage to the crops and small shipments. The butter market is firmer, but there is little business doing in the colonial article, the only demand being for ohoicest, which is quickly absorbed. Now Zealand, 102r> to 104s. Nominal prices for choicest Australian are: Salted, 96s to 98s; unsaltal, 100s to 102s. New Zealand factories are asking lOJs.c.i.f. for contracts for the season, but jio business is passing, buyers' ideas of values being from 96s to 98s. . ■

Copper: Spot, £76 Es; thret months, £73 10s.
