A telegram was received from Mr A. R. The sub-committee jn charge of Iho Art Gallery gardens reported progress, and correspondence with the town olork in connection therewith was lead. Disappointment was expressed that no financial assistance had boon received from tho- City Council. Tho report also stated that- the council had granted permission for tiro planting of Oriental, pldno trees along the outside edge of the footpath on. both sides, of Lower High street, as far as tho Railway Station. The sub-ccmmitteo, however, suggested that the planting, should bo delayed till tho footpath- had been completed and tho kerbing placed in position. It was resolved to thank the council for tho permission 1o plant, and to request that, the footpaths might be formed as soon, as practicable'and that tho planting of the trees might bo delayed till next season.

It being reported that certain unformed road lines in the Lqitli Valley that were valuablo as picnic arid..-,' recreation grounds wero being monopolised by adjacent- kndownora, and were in- eomo cases oven built upon, by them, it was decided that tho attention of the Maori Hill' Borough ' Council bo again drawn to tho advisability, of preserving the bush on all road lines where such existed, and that it bo requested to have oil Euch as wero denuded of bush kept open to tho publio, in order that tlioy might bo available as picnio and pleasure resorts.

Tho Treasurer reported that up todato tho sum of £53 14s had been paid for soil and cartage at tho Art Gallery garden, and £10 : 16s 6d for trees and freight. The bank balance was shown as £59 15s.— Adopted. Mr G. M. Thomson brought under'tho notico of tho committee the condition of tho lands scon from tlio railway as it entered Duncdin from both north and south; particularly at- tho north end at tho outflow of tho Loith,. arid, at tho south end at a piece of land, adjacont to Lambert's brickworks. In both cases tho oft'oot was most unsightly, and was calculated to give visitors a bad first impression on entoring Duncdin.—After sonte discussion further consideration of the matter waa deferred on- tho understanding _ that members of the society would inspcot tha localities named.
