HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The monthly meeting of Iho High Schools Board of Governors, held yesterday, was intended by the Mayor (.Mr J. Loudon), who was voted to tho chair, Mr J. M. Galloway, .Dr Church, and the Hon. T. Fergus.

Mr Fergus reported having gone over accounts, and salaries for tho month, in the absence of tho treasurer, amounting to £593 6s 4d, and recommended same for payment.—Accordingly. Bank books were laid on tho table showing a balance, after paying outstanding cheques, of £971 15a 7d. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Navy Lcaguo intimating that the subject® for .this year's essays would be: — Boys' High School—Senior, "The Mastery of the' Pacific"; junior, "The .Work of the Navy." Girls' Hi I'll School, "Tho Navy as' a Peace-maker. A letter from the lady principal of the Girls' School was received reporting that tho school had received from the secretary of tho Now Zealand International Exhibition tho two certificates of merit, first olaes in drawing from the oast, and second olass for drawing and painting from life.— Received, and appreciation expressed. A letter was received from tho reotor of the Boys' High School intimating the resignation of Mr T. D, Adams, assistant master at the school, "and stating that- it would bo necessary to take step 3 to fill the vacancy,—'The Sec-rotary stated that after conference with the rector he had advertised for a junior master.—The aotion of the secretary was approved.—Mr Callaway moved and Dr Church seconded, and it wn-j resolved—"That the resignation be accepted with regret, Mr Adams to bo cordially congratulated upon his promotion, which the board hopes will lead to a successful professorial oaroor."
