INVERCARGILL POULTRY SHOW.

Inn twenty-first annual rhow of the Southland Lajicierfi' Club was opened today at tho Zoa-bmlia FM The weather was somowlmt unfavourable, bring cold and showery, but notwithstanding this tnere was u very largo attendance, ineluding a largo number of visitors 'from the northern towns. This year tho club lias made sovcral improvements in tho arrangement of the exhibits, the mast important lioing tlio erection of a special addition for dog:-, affording more room for visitors to move about. The club is to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements, and al:-:o on the great success of tho show, which is the best hitherto hold here. Tho number of enl rios constitutes » record, the iotai being 1305, made up as follows:— Poultry,' 694; pigeons, 410; dogs, 100; canaries, 55. and pets, 46. Last year's total was HO. Some idea of the progress of the club may be gained from the fact that llm entrv list has practically doubled itself in two yeara. The judges are Mr J. 11. I'onur (of Auckland) and Mr ,T. Maude (of Kydnevl. Thero was a great deal of judring to be done, and an effort was made to gel through it in the one day, but owing to the failing light tho canaries and part of the pigeoiK section were left over till tomorrow. An attractive feature is tho pet section, which includes among other novelties frogs. opossums, white mien, koas. hedgehogs, and monkey?, At interval* during the evening trick dogs went through fon* performances, which appeared to take ihe public fancy, as also did tho fowltrussing competition.
