INDEPENDENT POLITICAL LABOUR LEAGUE.
A general meeting of the Independent Political Labour League was held last evening in the Trades Hall, Mr \V. S., l'attisou occupying the chair. The accounts in connect icn with the recent murieipal election campaign of the league's candidates were fully dealt with, an<W reports received from those candidates. Mr J. W. Munro, in addressing the incotirg, stated that though dcfoitcd he felt ' by no means disheartened, and considered that the support ho had received in Leith Ward fully justified his recont candidature, and that tho league's action ha*l already boruo good fiuit, especially by tho approval of the planks in the platform, dealing with a minimum payment of 8s a day to labourers, and tho proposal of ec-mmittco meetings being hold id. tho council in the cvoning. Messrs W. liaird. J. Haymes, and T. Fiddis also addressed tho meeting, speaking hopefully of, their! prospccta at tho next eloctaon.
Mr U. Ferguson (Flourmiilors' Union) moved, and Mr W. Baird, seconded, the following motion:-"That this mooting of tho league desires to express its deepest sympathy with the relatives of tho late Hon, W. M. Bolt, M.L.C., in their great sc-rrow, Labour throughout. the colony having suffered on irroparablo IOS 3 through his lamented daath." This resolution was carried in silence, the members respectfully sta,ndin?.
Mr J. M. Filverstin moved, and Mr J. Brown seconded—" That tho Minister of Labour be written to calling his attention to his replv to the league's previous letter dealing with tho stoopngc of assisted imroi-; grntio'n, and respectfully askinst him why it had not been duly Riven effect to,"
