ELECTING SERVICES FOR NAPIER.
(Pas Umitid Press Association.) „„ N.U'lKli, M,,,eh 25. Iho Napier Borough Council 10-night considered a report from Mr James Biack. A.M.1.C.E., who submitted an estimate of tho probable cost of installing a .system of eleetrio lighting uml traction and the receipts that might reasonably be expected, iho most: suitable route for' a tramway was described as being from Hastings street to Port Ahuriri, and also lo the hospital, and from Clive square to tho railway station, with a contingent, service to Taradalo. The approximate cost of construction was set down at £77,000 for traction, lighting, nnd power, and inclusive of tho Taradalo service; and at £45,000 exclusive of that service. For a lighting scheme _ only the estimate was £12,500. The estimated revenue in the second year was £118,000, £7600, and £3300 respectively for the three schemes, giving an approximate net: profit of £1600, £730, and £600 respectively. The following resolution was passed:— "Thai: it lie notified that it is tho intention of tho council of the Borough of .\ttpier to apply for an Order-in-Couneil authorising tlio installation of eleclrie lighting and the construction of a tramway, lo be run on the lines of Mr .Black's report; and, further, that the Ilawke's Bay Council, tho Taradale Town Board, and tho Wha.reomaracnui Reclamation .Syndicate bo informed what steps the council are taking, so that: they also may take the necessary steps in case it is wished to extend Iho trams from the borough to Taradale."
